If
you are planning to purchase real estate in Gilroy, listed below is some information
about this California town. Gilroy, California is located in the southern part
of Santa Clara County and is approximately 30 miles south of downtown San Jose
and is 13 miles north of the town and mission San
Juan Batista. The Santa Cruz Mountains are to the west and Monterey is located
approximately 40 miles southwest of Gilroy.
The Gilroy population, as of 2000 is listed by the US Census Bureau at over 41,000.
Further estimates by the state of California, place the population at over 50,000
in 2008, ranking the city in the top 20 of largest cities in California. The city
of Gilroy consists is 15.9 square miles and an average elevation of 200 feet.
The city's web site is www.ci.gilroy.ca.us. The
Real Estate Market With the price of real estate for a home at $440,000,
the housing costs as compared to San Jose and Monterey are
much lower. For those residents that work in Gilroy and the surrounding area,
this can be a great savings. For those that commute to Monterey
or to San Jose/Silicon Valley with the dramatic increase of gas, the commute to
those areas can not only be time consuming but expensive. If you are thinking
of moving to Gilroy and commuting long distances to work, paying an extra thousand
dollars a month for gas as well as the wear and tear on your vehicle can be a
hindrance and offset cheaper housing.
The nationwide real estate market for those towns and cities where commuting to
the big city from a suburb by car, may not in the future be an economically feasible
situation if the price of gas continues to rise. However, the good news for Gilroy
is that Caltrains and Amtrack are located in the town and offer train services
to downtown San Jose and to other locations up to San Francisco. Taking these
trains can offshoot the cost increased energy costs for the commuter who drives
to work via a car. In conclusion, the real estate market (residential and commercial)
in Gilroy, California may decrease if the energy costs at the gas pump continue
to increase in the coming years. Agents

Bautista Gilroy. Clara Ortega, daughter of Ygnacio Ortega (who was deeded a large
amount of land called San Ysidro grant from Spain) and Juan Bautista Gilroy married
