The Los Altos Hills official website is www.losaltoshills.ca.gov.
With the average cost of a home in the of $2,225,000 range and the average household
income $173,570, Los Altos Hills is considered by many one of the most wealthiest
place to live in Silicon Valley as well as the nation, thus the real estate in
this town is extremely high.
Real Estate Market
Since Los Altos Hills is in close proximity of Silicon Valley, many of the influential
executives and leaders of Silicon Valley reside in this community. The elegant
homes and large parcels of land create a rural environment that is conducive to
a relaxed lifestyle. The slow or even non-growth philosophy, (as noted in the
zoning regulations that are considered one of the strictest in California) permeates
within the community. The above issues had made the Los Altos Hills real estate
market to be expensive. The expensive luxury homes that dot this town are a result
of the increase of high tech in Silicon
Valley over the last 30 years. With a slow / no-growth philosophy and the Silicon
Valley financial influence, expect the real estate market of Los Altos Hills increase.

Brief
History The first inhabitants were the
Ohlone Indians who settled in Los Altos Hills and Santa Clara Valley. In the 1770's,
Juan Bautista De Anza (a Spanish explorer and priest) passed though this area
on his way to establish establish missions up and down the California, including
Mission Santa Clara, Mission Santa Cruz and Mission San Jose.
In the middle of the eighteenth century, Los Altos Hills started as a cattle grazing
and grape growing region. The area eventually grew into orchard farms with apricot,
plums and other fruit trees. With the onset of the gold rush, many wealthy San
Franciscans bought property in the area and built summer estates.
In 1956, Los Altos Hills was incorporated and kept its small town rural image
and still does today.
