Historical
Information about Morgan Hill As many as 10,000 Mutsun Ohlone or
Costanoan
Indians as the Spaniards called them. (meaning Costanos or "coast people",
were indigous to the area for thousands of years before the advent of the Spanish.
This native American tribe fished and hunted this area from as far noth as San
Francisco to as far south as Monterey. In 1776, Captain Juan Bautista de Anza
and his group were the first Europeans to enter Morgan Hill and the surrounding
area.
Morgan
Hill was named after Morgan Hill's Ranch and country retreat, owned and operated
by Diana and Hiram Morgan Hill. It was a popular train stop for tourists and locals
alike and thus became the name Morgan Hill. The area was incorporated in 1906
