Historical
Information Before the arrival of the Spanish
in the 1770's, The Ohlone Indians were the first settlers in the Sunnyvale area.
In the 1870's, due to the moderate climate and friendly soil, fruit orchards became
prominent in the area and Sunnyvale became the city to build a cannery. In 1912
Sunnyvale was incorporated as a city,
During World War II and after, the economy of the Santa Clara Valley began to
change from an agricultural community to an industrial one. The growth of the
defense industry with the likes of Moffet Field and and aircraft manufacturer
quickly replaced the orchards as the prominent industry. The orchards slowly diminished
and were replaced by housing projects. Today, Sunnyvale is part of another boon
